CAA (Professionals) — Proposed name change in Chinese for CAA (本會改名為 “樹藝公會” ？)

本會自2004年成立至今，已經更改名字從 “國際樹木學會中華地區分會” 到現在的 “中華樹藝師學會” ，適應實務要求，不斷與時並進。

成立至今，本會的宗旨乃是在大中華地區內發展和保護樹藝行業，令其與國際接軌，並要求這個行業成為獨立專業，不受其他傳統行業操控和指揮。 國際上的樹藝行業已經存在了百多年，西方國家對樹藝知識的研究和發表也是定期和繁多，樹藝行業完全不止好像香港的所謂 “樹木管理” 那麼短窄簡單，也不歸任何景觀行業來指揮控制。

十一年來，本會多次公開發表樹藝行業發展的中文文章 (http://www.chinaarbor.com/home/%E6%A8%B9%E8%97%9D%E6%96%87%E7%AB%A0/ ) ，參與了本地區內大大小小的綠色會議，去推廣這罕為人知的新興專業 (http://www.chinaarbor.com/%E6%B4%BB%E5%8B%95/ ) ，把這個行業發展從無到有，從小到大，得到成績是有目共睹。

香港作為大中華地區樹藝行業的先行者，英語也是這裡的官方語言，所以本會首選香港作為基地，再借其向周邊地區把本行業訊息擴散輻射出去，已經取得了一定成就。 目前本會的總人數已超過五千人，來自各行各業，除了90%以上是來自本地區外，其他的分佈在全球各地，這也是為何本會週訊，還需要保留英語版本的主因。

除上述可以公開的文件以外，本會尚有大量背後工作，不能公開的文件存在，往往直達政府高層和民間決策者手中，用證據和事實不停作出影響，務求本行業能夠走上正軌，為社會服務。

有鑑於此，本會最近收到行內外多名有份量的人仕建議，本會應否再把名稱更改一次，新號為 “中華樹藝公會” ，而把那個 “師” 字和 “學” 字敲掉，去包容所有行內執業者，和對本行支持和有興趣的普羅大眾，令本會更名正言順？

“公會” 兩個字看上去是簡單，但實際上包含了 “工會” 、 “ 商會” 和 “學會” 三個部份，令我們更具代表性。 沒有了 “師” 字，也不再限定入行門檻，可以讓所有人參與，特別是社會上的愛樹人仕。 把 “學” 字除掉，令人感覺我們不再是書呆子，況且本會目前也缺乏學術研究能力，尚靠洋人提供。

本會現在正在內部商討改名事宜，也希望公開聆聽會員們和社會大眾的聲音和建議。 最終的改名決定，要經過本會執委會的投票通過，才能開始。 之後還有各類的法律文件準備，全程估計需時好幾個月才能完成。

為此，本會願意虛心聆聽各界意見，待資料收集整理後，將會報交本會執委會詳作考慮決定，非常感謝各位 !

Dear Station Members,

The long Chinese message above is suggesting that CAA is considering to change her Chinese name from an “academic society” to that of a “public society”. The English name will remain unchanged, since the meaning itself can already cover our mission.

The Chinese language is rather different from the English language in interpreting words. Whereas academic” or “public” might not mean much in English for a society, depending on what you would do, in Chinese they would mean rather different things. The word “public society” would cover trade union, worker union & academic society simultaneously, making it very inclusive.

The mission of CAA has always been to promote & protect the newly born Arborist Profession in the China Region, to ensure it would grow properly & does not become a subordinate of another landscape profession. This is the objective of CAA right from the beginning of 2004, although we were under a different name at that time. CAA is now big, with 5,000+ members from all cross of life, & our impact reaches all across the China Region & globally.

As for this proposed change in name, we are seeking the opinions of our members & public (yes, the public indeed!) on it. Anybody can have a say, although we are not bound for any opinion at the end to ensure our own independence. The collected opinions will be passed on to the CAA Board to make a final decision.

BTW, it is only the Deputy Station Managers in CAA who can cast a vote. The Station Manager can only vote if there is a zero return, or when the votes are equal. This is to ensure that the Station Manager alone cannot monopolize any decision. This is the way which CAA has been running successfully & growing in the past 11 years. The selection of our Deputy Station Manager is absolutely crucial.

CAA is very careful to develop our strategies to fit in with our local conditions. We have been doing well so far. This is reflected in our growing membership. We shall continue to do so, to benefit our trees, as well as our people.
